Emilie Thalund

Emilie Thalund is a Danish filmmaker drawn to intimate, emotionally precise storytelling. Her work is rooted in character and atmosphere, balancing visual sensitivity with an unflinching exploration of identity, vulnerability, and youth.

Her debut feature, Weightless (Vægtløs), premiered in the New Directors section at the 73rd San Sebastián International Film Festival, where it won the Kutxabank–New Directors Award. The film follows a fifteen-year-old girl as she navigates body image, desire, and belonging during a formative summer, capturing adolescence with striking tenderness and emotional honesty.

Following its world premiere, Weightless screened at several international film festivals, including the BFI London Film Festival and in the main competition at the Göteborg Film Festival, where it received the FIPRESCI Critics’ Award as well as the Sven Nykvist Cinematography Award.

Praised for its sensitivity and immersive perspective, Weightless establishes Thalund as a confident new voice, one unafraid to explore vulnerability with nuance and restraint.
