Matt Wolf’s critically acclaimed documentary films explore youth culture, television, queer history, and the work of prolific artists, and have screened widely at international film festivals, with global theatrical and television distribution.

His recent HBO documentary Pee-wee as Himself earned multiple major honors, including three Primetime Emmy Awards, including Best Director and Best Documentary, a Gotham Award, a Producers Guild Award, and an Independent Spirit Award for Best Documentary Series. The New York Times, LA Times, New Yorker, Rolling Stone, NPR, Variety, and 20 other publications named it a top television show or documentary of 2025.

In addition to his filmmaking practice, Matt is writing a book for Bloomsbury, organizes film screenings and public events, and is a Guggenheim Fellow and a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
